I have played and worked at a lot of courses in and around Dublin but this was my first trip to St Anne's Golf Course on Bull island. It was a stunning setting nestled on the edge of Dublin Bay with views back over the city, the sun was out but a strong enough wind made scoring tricky. This was RSM Farrell Grant Sparks Golf Outing for 2013 and some good scores were posted. All guests received a printed image in a folder on the day of their four-ball as a memento.
This great event for the Dromore to Shore charity bike ride covered 107 kms from Dromore in County Tyrone to Downings in Donegal. I was glad I was in the car and if that wasn't tough enough they cycled back the next day so fair play to everyone involved and all in the name of charity.
It's two years since I graced the playa in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada for my first Burning Man experience. It's very difficult to explain to someone who has never been but officially it is an annual art event and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance. You bring everything you need to survive for a week in the desert and don't spend any money when you are there, everyone gifts everyone.
This is a truly magical experience and I have never been in a crowd of 50,000 people who were so happy and simply enjoying life. Whilst cycling around (you need a bike as it's so big) you will probably find some guy has set up his own bar and offers you a freezing cold beer, a couple offering hotdogs from a hotdog stand that is a 20 minute cycle from anything or just stumble across an old long forgotten pier which has been transported from it's original home to the playa, this place has everything and anything.
When night descends the temperature dips and the party begins but in all honesty this is a 24/7 party if you want it to be. The playa comes to life with 'art cars' which can be anything from a converted bus that now resembles a boat from Pirates of the Caribbean to an old truck that is now a fire breathing dragon! Put this together with some amazing dj's and theme camps and before you know it the sun is coming up again.
To all my mates that are heading back this year have an amazing time and for anyone that has a bucket list this is something to put on it!
Hopefully next year I'll be back on the playa!
I'm constantly amazed by the variety of event's Red Bull set up and also the images that their photographers take. Here are some images from the highest ever base jump off Mt. Everest, from an altitude of 7,220m. Valery Rozov was the man that made the jump and hats off to him is all I can say. The images were taken by Thomas Senf and Denis Klero. Here's the link: Photostory: BASE jumping from Mount Everest Not a bad job!
Got myself a media pass for the Irish Open and got into Rory McIlroy's press conference and spent a good hour standing beside him and watching him at the practise range, you gotta love access all areas passes! Here's a few images and it's a shame he missed the cut but well done to Paul Casey, ranked 163 in the world before the event.
If Carlsberg made jobs this would be the one for me! I spent four days in Waterville in Co Kerry covering the 24th World Invitational Father & Son Golf Tournament. This prestigious annual event organised by Carr Golf Travel at one of the most beautiful courses in Ireland, Waterville Golf Links, saw teams gather from the USA, Ireland and Europe.
Thankfully the weather was kind although sun tan lotion and the waterproofs were both needed. Below are some images from the event but here is the link to all of the images over the four days World Invitational. I was lucky enough to meet a great bunch of people who had some serious craic both on and of the course! Congratulations to Robert and Rudi Butler who won the event and the 25th anniversary should be some event next year!
Here are some images from 'Driving Digital Jobs in Europe' which was an invite only event hosted by Microsoft and brought together a group of 60 youth ambassadors from countries hardest hit by youth unemployment in Europe.
Speakers at the event included Minister of State Fergus O’Dowd, TD, Ireland’s digital champion Lord David Puttnam, Microsoft Ireland MD Cathriona Hallahan and former professional boxer Bernard Dunne, who is also a Youth2Work champion.
Announcing the shortlist for the Irish Internet Association (IIA) Dot IE Net Visionary Awards at The Digital Hub. The awards will be presented across 15 categories at a ceremony to be held at The Smock Alley Banquet Hall, Dublin 8, on Friday 27th September.
Following the success of the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Pull for Sight, ORBIS Ireland teamed up with GECAS and Shannon Aerospace to host the ORBIS Plane Pull for Sight event on Saturday 20 July 2013. The ORBIS Pull for Sight saw teams of 25 pull an aircraft over 12 feet at Shannon Airport. The aircraft - weighing a massive 85 tonnes - is the equivalent of 21 elephants or 42 family cars! A great day out in Shannon and raised a great amount in sponsorship, congrats to everyone involved!
Can Rory find the form to pick up another major, can McDowell roll on from his win at the French Open or can Clarkey defy all the odds and take The Open home again?? Here's hoping for a quality few days of golf and below are some pics I took at the Irish Open.
